Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos
state has been named “Nigerian 2015/2016
Governor of the Year”.
The study conducted by the Centre for
International Advanced and Professional
Studies (CIAPS) based on a comparative
analysis of governors’ performance in
Nigeria.
Daily Post reports that the study tagged
CIAPS Governors’ Performance Index
(CGPI) is a monthly performance review
of what governors across the country are
doing in their offices and what they have
achieved so far.
Olumuyiwa Ayoola, the CGPI coordinator,
said that the action of each governor was
monitored and studied from their first day
in office. Then the findings were graded
and compared to that of fellow governors
across the country.
This year, Lagos state and its governor
came first with 74%, while Edo and Cross
River states took second and third
positions respectively with 70% and 65%.
Commenting on the CGPI report, Prof
Anthony Kila, CIAPS centre director and
CGPI chair, said that the “CGPI is a useful
tool for democracy and good governance
as it allows government to be objectively
measured against their peers and compels
all in power to be mindful of
accountability”.
