Gunmen open fire on motorists in Kwara fuel queue
Three gunmen today in Ilorin, Kwara State opened fire on motorists queuing for fuel.
The shocking incident which left two young men and a lady critically injured happened at one of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, filling station located along Offa Garage Road.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident which happened in the early hours of the day left individuals present at the filling station scampering for safety.
The gunmen, according to reports were youths who took it upon themselves to control the influx and maintain order on queues of individuals seeking to buy fuel.
An eyewitness reported; “it was due to an argument among the boys; you know they are thugs and they have been at the gate but we don’t really know what led to the argument but we just suddenly heard the gunshots and it was later discovered that some people were seriously injured.”
The three injured persons were however reported to have been rushed to Yusjib Industrial Medicare, a private hospital for medical attention.
According to the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Yusuf Abdulraheem, the injured persons are in stable conditions. He added that one of them has been taken to the laboratory for bullet extraction.
When contacted, the state police confirmed the incident adding that the gunmen have been arrested and weapons including live cartridges were recovered.
