million ransom
Daily Trust reports that the legislator, who
was abducted with one of his aides, was
freed after a ransom of N10 million was
paid.
He was said to have been kidnapped
at Gobirawa village of Birnin Gwari,
Kaduna state.

Confirming his release, the Katsina state
chairman of the All Progressives Congress
(APC), Shittu Shittu, said the lawmaker
was released immediately the said sum
was paid.
He said: “The abductors asked that the
member’s driver should take the money to
a designated place and just between 15
and 20 minutes later, Bello was released.”

Information Nigeria had earlier reported
that the abductors made the demand
which the police denied knowledge of.
Kidnapping for ransom has been a major
‘business venture’ for certain citizens of
the country in the face of high
unemployment and proliferation of small
arms.
While some Nigerians are canvassing for
state police, the Lagos state House of
Assembly recently passed the
Neighbourhood Watch bill to enable
grassroots policing.
